For most immigrants, food is always the last thing they shed of
the culture they were born to, if they shed it at all.
After all, what else could account for the variety of cuisines that
sprout in the cities that have a mixed population of nationalist?
It would be logical then that food is also the ideal introduction to

The real hero of this history is the kare-kare. A year ago, Elaine Teh
was enjoying the Philippine Independence Day festivities in Singapore.
As a special guest of the Department of Tourism, she was privy not
only to the Filipino showcase that unfolded, but the delectable
Pinoy cuisine laid out like a fiesta spread, a spread that included kare-kare, a curry that features oxtails, banana hearts and a
peanut sauce.
